Lake Oconee Humane Society (LOHS) is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to support the daily medical care of shelter animals and assist with high-quality veterinary services. What You’ll Do:
- Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgeries, and medical procedures
- Prepare treatment areas, surgical instruments, and medical supplies
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
- Monitor animals before, during, and after procedures to ensure their safety and comfort
- Collect and process laboratory samples and maintain accurate medical records
- Educate adopters and clients on medications, recovery instructions, and ongoing care
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary treatment and kennel areas
- Assist with patient intake, restraint, handling, and daily monitoring of shelter animals
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to support efficient shelter operations
- Help create a positive, compassionate experience for both animals and people
What We’re Looking For:
- Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, clinic, kennel, or similar environment preferred
- Basic understanding of animal handling and restraint techniques
- Willingness to learn veterinary procedures and shelter protocols
- Strong work ethic and ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude with a team-oriented mindset
- Comfortable performing physical tasks, including lifting animals and standing for extended periods
- Compassionate, patient, and dependable
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English
