You can view all of our animals online or visit our adoption center. Some of our cats and dogs may be in foster homes so please call first to make sure the cat or dog is at the shelter and still available. Be sure to look for our off-site adoption events as well. Not everybody can come all at once, but we are able to talk with you about any of our cats and dogs.
Yes. LOHS provides spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm testing and a microchip for every animal adopted.
Our adoption fees cover a portion of the cost of the food and medical care we provide for the cats and dogs in our program. All animals are dewormed, are vaccinated appropriately for their age, are spayed, or neutered and are microchipped.
Yes, we have a Pets Love Vets program where eligible veterans may adopt animals for free through our partnership with our local Rotary Club. Ask us for more information about the program!
If the animal is old enough and has already been spayed/neutered, they may be able to go home the same day they are adopted. Animals that are too young or not yet spayed/neutered are still able to be pre-adopted or fostered to adopt but will need to stay with us until they are ready to go home.
You will pay the adoption fee and complete the foster paperwork. Requirements for foster to adopt are:
– You must live within 15 to 30 minutes from ORHS.
– You must be able to bring the animal in when the manager requests for medication, vaccines, and surgery.
While we want every adoption to be a forever home, we understand that sometimes extenuating situations may arise and the animal can no longer stay in that particular home. Our request to our adopters is to notify us should it come to that. We may not be able to accept a return for various reasons, but our utmost concern is for our animals and we will do whatever we can to make sure they are safe and loved.
