Administrative Assistant

LOHS is hiring for an Administrative Assistant.

Join Lake Oconee Humane Society (LOHS) and be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to saving and improving the lives of animals every day.

As an Administrative Assistant, you’ll work hands-on across nonprofit operations: working closely with leadership; managing volunteers; coordinating events and projects; and helping keep our shelter running smoothly. This is an ideal opportunity for someone eager to hone professional skills in communications, operations, and nonprofit management in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.

This isn’t your typical desk job…no two days look the same! You’ll be actively involved in the day-to-day operations of a busy animal shelter, gaining hands-on experience across multiple areas of a nonprofit organization.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support the Executive Director with scheduling, correspondence, meeting prep, and follow-ups
  • Monitor and respond to general and administrative email accounts
  • Manage and grow our volunteer program, ensuring shifts are filled and volunteers feel supported
  • Maintain organized records and databases related to volunteers, animal care, and shelter operations
  • Coordinate with service providers and assist with day-to-day facility needs
  • Assist with basic financial tasks including donation tracking and report preparation
  • Keep office spaces organized, stocked, and running efficiently
  • Serve as a welcoming first point of contact at the front desk, assisting visitors, volunteers, and community members
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment and support special projects as needed

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strong interest in animal welfare or nonprofit work
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a dynamic environment
  • Comfort interacting with a wide range of people in a professional, friendly manner
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with Canva is a plus
